Alba Ponce de León is a singer/songwriter based in NYC.  Growing up with a musical father and a mother who was a passionate and eclectic music appreciator, Alba developed a varied love of music at an early age, especially the sounds of Lola Beltrán, Rocío Dúrcal and Selena. As her exposure to music grew, she became enamored with the soulful sounds of the late 60s and 70s. In particular, she gravitated towards the powerful voices of Tina Turner & The Ikettes, Betty Wright, Linda Ronstadt and Irma Thomas. These influences, along with countless others, became the bedrock of her current project, Alba + The Mighty Lions.

Since moving to NY to pursue her singing professionally, Alba has been very involved with Daptone Records, touring the world as a member of Naomi Shelton & The Gospel Queens (Daptone Records), and performing live and on recordings with Charles Bradley (Dunham Records)

For several years, Alba also fronted a soul band comprised of Daptone stable musicians called The Del-Reys which gained traction performing all over NYC, including the Bowery Ballroom. The Del-Reys began recording their freshman album at Dunham Records in 2010. However, the recordings were never completed or released as the band was forced to go on hiatus after several musicians were drafted as touring members of Charles Bradley & His Extraordinaires, and Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings. To this day, the tapes remain archived.

In addition to her work at Daptone/Dunham, Alba has recorded for artists including Alicia Keys, Mark Ronson, Binky Griptite, The Reigning Sound, The Scone Cash Players and more. She also wrote for and sang on the soundtrack for Postales, the film. Alba has performed live with Marva Whitney, Billy Prince of the Precisions, BENJAMIN, Walk Talk, SLV and Karikatura NYC, to name a few. She is also a current and founding member of The Resistance Revival Chorus, an internationally known chorus born out of the Women's March on Washington.

Currently, Alba fronts a psychedelic Latin soul band called, Alba + The Mighty Lions whose debut 45 is forthcoming on Names You Can Trust.  To stay in the loop about upcoming shows and release dates, follow the Mighty Lions Instagram!

Alba's passion for music goes beyond performance.  She is also a budding record collector and can be found around NYC DJing from her growing arsenal of soul 45s. She hosts a monthly live-streamed radio show, The Current Dig with Alba La Leonesa, on @Balamii Radio. You can hear her most recent episode archived here.
